Delete some of your data

You can delete individual documents, folders, or pages from ScanSmart without closing your account. This page describes each option, what is removed, and how long it takes to disappear from our servers.

1. Delete a single document

  1. Open the Documents tab in ScanSmart.
  2. Long-press the document you want to delete.
  3. From the action bar that appears at the top, tap the Delete icon (the trash can).
  4. Confirm the deletion in the dialog.

The document is moved to Trash, where it remains for thirty days before being permanently removed. During that time you can restore it from FoldersTrash.

2. Empty the Trash immediately

If you want a document gone right away rather than waiting out the 30-day grace period:

  1. Go to FoldersTrash.
  2. Long-press the document and tap Permanently delete.
  3. Confirm in the dialog.

Permanently deleted documents cannot be recovered, including from our servers.

3. Delete a folder

  1. Go to the Folders tab.
  2. Long-press the folder you want to remove.
  3. Tap Delete folder and confirm.

Deleting a folder does not delete the documents inside it. Those documents are moved to the root of your library so you do not lose any scans by accident. If you want the documents gone too, delete them individually first (steps 1–2) or after the folder is removed.

4. Remove individual pages from a multi-page document

  1. Open the document.
  2. Tap the page you want to remove to enter the page viewer.
  3. Tap the menu in the top-right and choose Delete page.

This removes the page and its OCR text from the document. The page is not recoverable — it does not go to Trash. The rest of the document is unaffected.

5. Sign out without deleting anything

If you simply want to stop using the app on this device but keep your data available when you sign back in:

  1. Go to SettingsAccount.
  2. Tap Sign Out.

Signing out does not delete anything; your account and documents remain on our servers and on your device's local storage until you sign back in or uninstall the app.

6. Request bulk deletion by email

If you cannot use the in-app controls (for example, the device with the app installed has been lost or replaced), email support@scansmart.app with the subject "Delete specific data" and a short description of what you want removed.

To help us verify the request and avoid acting on impersonation attempts, send the email from the address on the account and include any identifiers that help us locate the items (document titles, folder names, approximate dates).

We respond within five business days and act on verified requests within thirty days, in line with applicable data-protection law.

7. What we keep after partial deletion

Once a document, folder, page, or other piece of data is permanently removed, we no longer retain its content. We may keep short-lived server access logs (IP address, request path, timestamp) for up to thirty days for security and abuse-prevention purposes; these logs are not linked back to specific user content and are purged on a rolling basis.
